Los Angeles hard rock band EARTH AT NIGHT singer/ guitar player David J. Moriarty, bass player/ singer Jeff Edeker and drummer Dave Ferrara met in 2006 through serendipitous circumstances. “We found each other like any other band but quickly realized how natural we could write and arrange songs together.” They wrote, recorded and released their first ep “Anger Is The New Happiness” in 2007. For the next three years the band played all over California with indi and college radio support for the single “Berserk”. Then in 2010, the first full length album “Throwing Fire” was released with the single “I Can’t Promise Anything” that went to the hard rock, college, indi and rock radio all over the country and internationally. ”Throwing Fire” had songs featured in t.v shows on MTV, Vh-1, Fashion Channel and E! Network. After playing many shows including SXSW & The Red Gorilla Festival, the band parted ways with drummer Dave Ferrara who was working on several other projects at the time.
In the summer of 2014, EARTH AT NIGHT began writing acoustic ideas stepping away from the heavy, hard rock sound of their two previous recordings. EAN were striving for a more stripped down sound. A close friend, guitar player Anders Eriksson, started writing and rehearsing with the band adding dimension and textures of melody to the sound. In 2016 the band began the process of recording demos at Anders home studio. The trio played a few shows around Los Angeles showcasing the new songs and in early 2017, original drummer Dave Ferrara introduced Moriarty and Edeker to sound engineer Roland Weihmayer (Cemetery). Weihmayer’s efficient engineering skills and keen ear gave mix master/ producer Matt Appleton (Reel Big Fish) the raw tracks that were molded to what would be the final record. The final mix was sent to Frank Gagliardi at Fuselage Mastering in Nashville, TN for the finishing touch. The result 2018’s “A Long Time Coming”, is a sonic trek through woodsy acoustic tones and subtle dynamics, coupled with harmony and melody, wrapped in lush production that let the songs shine through naturally. It’s 2022, and EAN have spent the last few years now, including the pandemic, writing and demoing songs for a new electric album that Moriarty claims will be the “heaviest thing we have ever recorded?” We look forward to sharing.
